“Soul Food”

OPENING QUESTIONS:

1. What is your “comfort food”?  Are you a salty kind of person, or a sweets kind of person?
2. Tonight’s topic is “soul food”.  What do people mean when they say, “That’s good soul food!”

DIGGING IN:

1. READ I Peter 2:11.
2. What are “sinful desires”?
3. How do they wage war against our souls?
4. READ Isaiah 55:1-3.
5. Ask someone put these verses into their own words. What is Isaiah talking about here?
6. What kinds of things drain life out of our souls?
7. What kinds of things feed our souls?

GETTING CLOSE:

1. On Sunday, we learned about 10 things that feed our souls.  (Read through the list quickly to refresh people’s memories.)
2. Which of these means the most to you?  Why?
3. What have you done this week to specifically feed your soul?

PRAYER:

1. Let’s break the prayer time into two parts tonight.  Part one, encourage people to simply finish this sentence before God in prayer.  “God, tonight my soul is…”  They can either pray this out loud for the group to share, or they can pray it silently. 
2. For part two, pray for one another’s souls.  For example, if someone prayed about their soul being afraid, then pray for them to have courage.  Or if someone prayed about their soul being sad, pray for them to be filled with joy.  And so forth.
