WAR! Part 8 “The helmet of Salvation”

OPENING QUESTIONS:

1. Recently, there was a USAir flight that made an emergency “crash” landing on the Hudson River in NYC.  The news heralded the pilot as a “hero” and applauded his calm, cool, demeanor.  If you had been on that flight, what would you say to that pilot who saved your life?  Do you think you would you fly again?  Why or why not?

DIGGING IN:

1. Tonight, let’s talk about salvation.  How would you define “salvation” in a nutshell?
2. To further our discussion, let’s look at three aspects of salvation: our past, our present and our future.
3. Our Past, what we were saved from: READ Ephesians 2:1-5.
4. According to this, what “were” we?
5. From this passage, what does it look like to be dead in sin?  Is this a good thing?  Why or why not?
6. Our Present, what we are saved into now: READ I Corinthians 1:18.
7. What does this verse mean when it says that we are “being” saved?
8. How does salvation bring us power to live our day to day lives?
9. Our Future, what we are saved for in the future: READ I Peter 1:3-5.
10. What is our inheritance which is spoken of in verse 4?
11. When will this inheritance be revealed?
12. Is this a day that you personally can look forward to?  Why or why not?

GOING FOR THE HEART:

1. To the leader: tonight’s discussion may have stirred up someone who is not yet saved.  Be sensitive to how people are responding in the discussion.  The Spirit may just be working to bring that person to salvation.
2. We learned that Jesus saved us from sin, but He also wants to be our Savior in every day situations.  Is there a circumstance in your life right now in which you could invite Jesus to be your Savior?  How can we support you?
