  “Dumb prayers”

OPENING QUESTION:

1. What kinds of things do you pray about most often?
2. Are there any prayers that you have prayed which you feel are silly or a waste of time?  (give some examples)

THE WORD:

1. Divide your group into two smaller groups. Assign a list of scriptures to each group for them to look up. 
2. Have group #1 look up:  Acts 4:23-31, Colossians 4:12, Matthew 5:44, Luke 18:10, I Timothy 2:1-2.
3. Have group #2 look up:  James 5:13-16, Mark 9:29, Habakkuk 3:1-2, Acts 27:29, II Corinthians 13:7.
4. Ask each group to use the scriptures they are given and make a list of different kinds of things that can be prayed for. 
5. Then bring the two groups back together and ‘report’ what they learned to each other.

GETTING PERSONAL:

1. Have you ever seriously doubted whether or not your prayers were heard?  How so?
2. How might tonight’s discussion help you to overcome those doubts you have about prayer?

GROUP PRAYER TIME:

1. After taking prayer requests, encourage folks to sit still for a moment to ask the Spirit to guide them before you launch into praying about those requests.
2. Pray for each other’s prayer requests.  Let’s trust God to come through for each other!

SUMMER PLANS:

With summer approaching, let’s plan our calendars together.  Along with your weekly meetings, try to include one or two events that are strictly social when you will invite friends to visit your group.
