money god

CELL MATTERS

Follow-up to the June 14, 2009 teaching called “money god, part 1”

OPENING QUESTIONS:

  1. Tell us about one of your favorite possessions ever. (ie.- a new car, a bicycle, a favorite dress, etc.)
  2. Did you have to pay for this, or was it given to you?

In our meeting tonight we will be talking about our stuff and the response of our souls to it.

THE WORD:

  1. READ Matthew 19:16-30.
  2. What appears to be this young man’s view of how to receive eternal life?
  3. Jesus lists six commandments but one of them is not part of the original 10 commandments.  Can you tell which one Jesus added?  (see Exodus 20) Why do you think Jesus added this one?
  4. Why is it so difficult for the rich to enter Heaven?

GETTING PERSONAL:

  1. Let’s talk about how money and things affect us.  How easily are you drawn in by a catchy ad or a slick magazine?
  2. If you were to put your attachment to money on a “10 scale” with “1” being totally unattached and “10” being overly attached, how would you rate yourself?
  3. Why do you think your soul is attracted to money?

CHALLENGE:

  1. On Sunday we were challenged to go on a “shopping fast” for 2 weeks.  Are you taking that challenge?  How can we help you?
  2. Pray for your friends who do not yet know Jesus and spend a few minutes talking about how your group can work together to invite them in.
