“Dad Rocks!”

OPENING QUESTIONS:

1. What is the most meaningful thing your father or mother ever said to you?
2. How did it make you feel?

DIGGING DEEPER:

1. READ Genesis 49.
2. Suggestion:  Get creative when you read this chapter.  Have the person who reads act like they are Jacob.  Have others in your group pretend to be each of Jacob’s sons. (If you have less than 12 in your group a few folks will have to double up.) Have “Jacob” deliver his blessings to each person in the group as he reads the text.
3. How do you think Reuben, Simeon, Levi and Issachar received what their father said to them?

    

4. How do you think the other brothers may have reacted as Jacob pronounced his blessings of Judah and Joseph?

    

5. Notice that these blessings contain insight into the future events of these men’s lives.  How was Jacob able to see the future like this?

    

GETTING PERSONAL:

1. If you have children, is there anything that you “see” coming up for them?
2. On what basis do you see this?
3. The final note is that Jacob’s words all came true for his sons.  His words had a powerful affect on the outcome of their future.  What a parent says can be very powerful in their child(ren)’s life!  What words of your parents are you still living out? 

PRAYER:

1. Pray for one another’s needs.  Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you as you pray for one another. 
2. Pray for your friends who do not yet know Jesus as Savior.
