CELL MATTERS

Follow-up to the July 19, 2009 teaching called “money god, iii””

OPENING QUESTIONS:

What is the worst investment (of time, money, etc.) that you ever made? Why?

In our meeting tonight we will be talking about some great investments we can make even if we do not have much money.

THE WORD:

READ Ecclesiastes 11.
Verses 1 and 2 go together as one thought. What is symbolized as “bread” being cast on the waters and giving to seven or even eight?
How will this help you out in a time of disaster?
Verses 3-6 form the next concept. Why is it unproductive to just watch the weather and let circumstances dictate your behavior?
How do the observations in verses 3-5 lead to the concluding advice in verse 6?
Verses 7-8 form the next thought in the chapter. Why is it important to remember “days of darkness” while we enjoy life?
Verses 9-10 come together to finish the wisdom of this chapter. Is it dangerous to tell a young man to “follow your heart and whatever your eyes see”? Why?
How does God’s judgment help to curb the wildness that could come from “following one’s heart”?
Verse 10 sums it up with a command to “banish anxiety from your heart”. How does one make this happen?

GETTING PERSONAL:

To summarize from the talk on Sunday, our text gives us four wise investments to make: be generous with many people; obey God in spite of circumstances; enjoy the free things in life; and seize opportunities that come up each day. Which of these is hard for you to do? Why?
How can we help you in this?

CLOSING PRAYER AND PLANNING:

Our team comes back this Tuesday, July 21. Let’s thank God for the great work He did in them and through them.
Pray for our summer kids clubs. We have two more weeks of clubs left. So far, 141 kids have attended these clubs. Let’s pray that many families will trust Jesus as their Savior through these clubs.
Pray for your friends who do not yet know Jesus and spend a few minutes talking about how your group can work together to invite them in.
