“Worship.  Everything else is just…pointless!”

OPENING QUESTIONS:

1. We use the word “awesome” to talk about many things.  We say “that pizza is awesome” or “The Red Sox are awesome”.  (But we instinctively know that pizza is not really awesome.)  What kinds of things would you say can rightly be described as “awesome”?

    

2. When we say that something is “awesome” what are we really saying about it?

    

GOING DEEPER:

1. Do you agree or disagree with this statement: “If there is no God, nothing matters.  If there is God, nothing else matters.”  Why or why not?

    

2. READ I Chronicles 16:7-36. 

    

3. What special event prompts this song of thanksgiving?

    

4. It is important to note that this song actually is a command.  When David begins with “Give Thanks”, he is not only thanking God, but also telling others to thank God.  Now glance through the song and point out the other commands to “sing”; “glory in His name”; “look to the Lord”; etc. 

    

5. Why is David telling his people to worship God?

    

6. In this song, what are some reasons David gives us for why we should worship God?

    

7. What makes the worship of God so important?  Why is it such a big deal?

    

8. READ Colossians 3:17.  According to this, how often are we to give thanks to God?

Tonight in prayer, let’s ask God to reveal Himself to us.  And let’s spend some time in song worshipping God.  Don’t you agree that we need a fresh encounter with God?!
