“The Power of Worship”

OPENING QUESTIONS:

1. Do you agree or disagree with this statement made by CS Lewis?  “Praise is the means by which God reveals Himself to His people.”  Why did you answer as you did?

    

GOING DEEPER:

1. READ Psalm 22:3 and 114:2. 

    

2. It might be helpful to get a few different versions of the bible and compare how they translate Psalm 22:3.  The most commonly known version of this verse is taken from the KJV which says, “God inhabits the praises of His people.”

    

3. What is it about our praise that makes God feel at home?

    

4. Is God always present in our praise, or could there be times when our worship turns Him away?  (Isaiah 1:10-14 might help)

    

5. Check out II Timothy 3:1-5.

    

6. What does it mean to have a “form of godliness but deny its power”?

    

7. Describe one of the most powerful times of worship you have ever experienced.  What were some factors that helped to make it such a powerful time?

    

8. From what we learned on Sunday, what are some things that we can do which would enhance our experience of worship?

    

GETTING PERSONAL:

1. Lately, has your ‘practice’ of worship been more for show or has it been genuine?  How so?

    

2. How can you nurture the proper heart condition for truly powerful worship?

1. Pray for those in your group who have honestly expressed being “showy” in their worship.  Ask God to bless them for their honesty and to meet them in a real way that will take them deeper with Him. 

    

2. Pray for friends who do not yet know Jesus.
