Growing together in 2010…in prayer

OPENING QUESTIONS:

1. As a church, we are preparing for “Covenant Sunday” on February 7.  In preparation for that, we are looking at the covenant which we will be asked to sign. 
2. Some people are into sky diving, they say it makes them feel alive.  Others just love to take a bike ride or be at home with the ones they love.  When do you feel the most “alive”?   

GOING DEEPER:

1. Read Ephesians 2:1-10.
2. What does verse one mean when it says we were “dead in our sins”?
3. According to verses 5-6, what two things did God do for us when we were dead?
4. What does it mean, practically speaking, that we are “raised up” with Christ? 
5. What kinds of things hold you back from experiencing this?

A LOOK AT OUR COVENANT:

“We will work to keep the unity of the Church…

…by resolving conflicts with others face to face, quickly and biblically.

(Matthew 18:15-20; I Peter 4:8)

…by refusing to speak poorly about or listen to gossip about another.

 (Ephesians 4:29; II Timothy 2:16)

…by praying together with my brothers and sisters for our church, our community and our world.  (I Timothy 2:8)

…by following the leaders whom God has placed over us. (Hebrews 13:17)

Do you have any questions about any of these statements? 

Which of these statements are most difficult for you to accomplish?  Why?

A practical idea:  How about setting aside a special prayer time with your group to meet and pray for the strength and growth of New River Church ? 

CLOSING PRAYER:

Pray for one another’s needs. 

Pray for your friends who do not yet know Jesus.

MAKE A PLAN:

On Sunday we set a goal of prayer walking South Windsor .  This is a great thing to do with a friend!  Perhaps one or two of you in your group would get together this week to walk and pray for a few neighborhoods?
