HANG-UPS:  THE EXISTENCE OF GOD

NOTE:  This lesson is a great opportunity for those in your group who may have doubts about God to express them and deal with them.  Do not be afraid to allow these questions to be drawn out so that your group can wrestle with them together.

OPENING QUESTIONS:

1. Have you ever known an atheist?
2. What reasons did they give as to why they do not believe in God?

DIGGING DEEPER:

1. READ I Peter 3:15 together. 
2. How well prepared do you think you are to give an answer for your faith?
3. On Sunday, we talked about the different approaches to God, ie-deism, theism, etc.  Let’s review these to be sure we all have an understanding of what they mean.  What is Deism?  Theism? Atheism? Pantheism? Agnosticism?
4. Take a look at Romans 1:20.  This tells us that God can be known through what He has made.
5. What evidences for the existence of God can we find in the natural world?
6. Ecclesiastes 3:11 says that God has placed eternity into our hearts.  How does our longing for the supernatural point to the existence of God? (First, it might help to talk about some of our supernatural longings, like our love of miracles and our fascination with the “other” world.)
7. How would you reply to someone who said that “Belief in God is a crutch for the uneducated”?  

GETTING PERSONAL:

1. Have you ever been asked a spiritual question for which you had no answer?  What was it?  (perhaps our group can help!)
2. Have you ever doubted the existence of God?  What was it like?  How did you overcome it?

PRAYER

1. Close by praying for one another and for your friends who do not know Jesus yet.
