Heaven touches Earth, part 3

OPENING QUESTION:

1. Have you ever been “stood up” for a date?  If so, can you tell us the story?
2. How did it feel to get stood up?

DIGGING DEEPER:

1. READ II Peter 1:3-4.
2. What does verse 4 mean when it says that we “participate in the divine nature”?
3. How does this happen in our lives?
4. According to this scripture, are we missing anything that we need? 
5. READ II Corinthians 1:20-22.
6. What does verse 20 mean when it says that Jesus is the “Yes” to all of God’s promises?
7. How are we the “amen” of these promises?
8. What does verse 21 mean when it says that God has “anointed” us?  Are you really anointed?! (yes!)
9. Corinth was a commercial trade center for the Roman Empire .  What do the three trading metaphors in verse 22 indicate that Jesus has done for us?

GETTING PERSONAL:

1. God really is saying "yes".  However, sometimes our earthly experiences say otherwise.  Why the apparent discrepancy?  Whenever we talk about promises, it stirs up painful memories of promises that were not kept.  Have you ever felt that God broke a promise to you?  How so?  How does that impact your relationship with Him?
2. What promises from God are particularly special to you?  Why?  How can you make them a reality in your life? 

PRAYER TIME:

Use this time to minister to one another, inviting God to heal our wounds from unanswered prayer. 

It is also a good idea to pray the promises that your group has just talked about.  For example, if someone said that they were fond of God's promise to renew our strength in Isaiah 40:29, you can actually turn to the passage and say it as a prayer. 

LOOKING OUT:

            The Summer Kids Clubs are going on.  If your group is not hosting one, it would be great to offer to help someone else’s club. 

            The summer is a great time for a BBQ.  Plan a BBQ as a group and invite un-churched friends to join you.  It will be fun and you can have an excellent witness.
