“Get Full”

“Do not be drunk on wine which leads to debauchery.  Instead, be filled

with the Holy Spirit.”  ~Ephesians 5:18

OPENING QUESTIONS:

1. Can anyone in our group share a story about a time when their car ran out of gas?  Where were you stranded?  How were you rescued?
2. Now let’s get metaphorical.  Have you ever physically, emotionally or spiritually “run out of gas”?  Why?  What was it like?

    

DIGGING DEEPER:

1. READ John 14:15-21 & Acts 2:27-39 & Ephesians 5:18.
2. Why did Jesus send us His Holy Spirit?
3. Jesus calls the Holy Spirit “Counselor”.  In what ways is He a Counselor for us?
4. In Acts 2, Peter spoke of repentance, baptism and the filling of the Spirit.  In your own words, describe what each of these means.
5. According to Acts 2:39, is repentance, baptism and the filling of the Spirit for us too?  How so?
6. As a group, talk about the difference between having the Holy Spirit and being filled with the Holy Spirit.  Note that in Romans 8:9, 16 all Christians have the Holy Spirit.  Note also that in Acts 19:2 Paul asked a group of Christians if they had received the Spirit when they believed.  So there is a difference!

    

GETTING PERSONAL:

1. Have you ever experienced the filling of the Holy Spirit?  If so, when?  How did it happen?
2. What is the difference between the first time a person is filled with the Spirit and all the other subsequent times.  Why is it necessary to be re-filled?
3. Some Christians link the filling of the Spirit with the spiritual gift of speaking in tongues.  How has this affected your own personal experience with the filling of the Spirit?
