CELL MATTERS Playing for Keeps OPENING QUESTION: 1. What was one your favorite games as a child? DIGGING DEEPER: 1. READ I Kings 19:19-21 & Matthew 4:21-22. 2. How are these two stories similar? 3. Both stories are examples of radical obedience. Let’s put it into today’s terms. How would you respond to a friend who told you, “I’m thinking of quitting my job and moving my family to Mozambique as an unpaid missionary.” (Would you call them crazy or would you admire them?) 4. Place yourself in Zebedee’s sandals. How would you feel as a father if your two sons took off to follow a new teacher? GETTING PERSONAL: 1. Let’s face it, our culture makes a BIG deal out of youth athletic leagues. Often these games are on Sunday mornings. Do you think it is right to skip church so your child can play in a game? Why or why not? 2. Elijah placed his mantle on Elisha indicating that he would transfer his prophetic authority over to the famer turned prophet. We all wear a mantle given us from God. Do you know what yours is? (encourage your group to share what they see God doing in one another’s lives.) PRAYER Use your prayer time to dedicate yourselves to Jesus. Refresh your commitment. Tell the Lord that you are playing for keeps. Repent of any spiritual laziness.
